MUSIC

These pieces were all part of my MFA thesis project. Each song is combined with an image from one of my beloved friends, past collaborators, my wife, and even me.

As a composer where I am today, I’d say that I write from an intuitive, collaborative place on each project.

I rely completely on intuition, connection to the story, and building the relationship between myself and the director to explore all the WHYs of the story they are telling. The WHY and WHERE music needs to go to support that and take the audiovisual experience to the next level and satisfy the creative vision that made the project come to life and fruition.

I can work digitally “in the box”, I can write, arrange and orchestrate music in order to hire musicians to record the music live. I quite often incorporate my voice whether as background sonic textures, or one woman choir, or front center. My voice is my first beloved instrument, and it is where I begin whenever I write any music, and I love to utilize it in pieces and collaborations where it is appropriate (sometimes not even distinguishable as a voice, but just another sonic texture).

I also fully believe in writing music that is authentic to the characters on screen. What are THEY listening to? What music and instruments reflect their inner worlds? Their dreams and sorrows? What moves and inspires THEM? Where are they from and what instruments are authentic to their heritage and story? I aim to write music that brings to life the inner world of your characters so that the audience can fully dive deep with them on the journey of your film or media project.
