SUMMER 2022 UPDATE

Ok! If you read this page, thanks for visiting and welcome back!

This summer I’m wrapping PASSENGER SEAT, starting work on two new shorts (so far), scoring a short, doing foley on an entire feature film, editing 15 eps of a podcast launching this summer called GOOD BAD BAD GOOD and wrote the theme song too, it rules, and i can’t wait to share it!), and planning to attend some film festivals as the short doc I scored, CANS CANT STAND, continues its festival run having first premiered in France at the Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival. I will be celebrating in person with the filmmakers and team at OUTFEST on Wednesday, July 20 at 9:30p at the DGA in Los Angeles.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I post more about my garden than I do my work, but I’ve decided to just lean into that as part of the “brand” of what I do, because my gardening, and outdoor nature and physical activity time is a tremendous part of what keeps me sane and going through freelance work and sedentary studio life. I also plan to start a new tab on this site where I blog about my work in an educational way to share what I know and what I am learning. Lots happening here at HSM and I’m endlessly stoked and grateful that this is my “work” and my “job.”

If you are curious in any way about having me on your project for sound and/or music, get in touch today.

JANUARY 2022 UPDATE!

It’s been a minute since I updated (3 months to be exact but whose counting) because I’ve been busy in the studio all fall and now into winter finishing up:

My studio continues to get more and more treated and the sound in here is amazing. I’m upgrading to 5.1 mixing this spring, and will finish my vocal recording booth soon as well. Stay tuned and get in touch about booking me on your project this Spring!

WHat’s happening w/ HSM in Sept/Oct?

Wednesday, Sept 29, 2021

Jenstar has been non-stop in the studio this month working on multiple projects, one of which is the 16mm short by Camille Ramos called STICKY FINGERS.

Jenstar has been taking care of all of the post-audio needs along with scoring 5 cues for the film. It has been a truly joyful and entertaining work period, because the comedy of this film, despite some underlying sadness and crucial mental health representation, really nails the laugh points both in edit and writing. HSM will wrap this week and already begin receiving sound turnover for the next project…

Up next is a short pilot called LOVE IS GAY written and directed by Isabelle Platt. Jenstar will also score and sound design/edit/mix this one as well. It is truly the best to get to deal with ALLLLL of the audio. And this is another joyful, funny, and fun short that is bound for episodic in due time…Not to mention Jenstar and Isabelle will get to spot the film IN PERSON next week, which for HSM is the first in person film making experience in over 17 months of remote collaboration. It’s going to be a true thrill to meet in person!

HSM has even more on deck: EP 2 of Changemakers via GLAAD will be delivered next week for another thrilling and fun collaboration with Creative Director at GLAAD, Abdool Corlette, who Jenstar will collaborate with on the sound vision, score and final mix. There will be a total of 4 videos in this series, and stay tuned for the official launch of EP 1 which we have completed but has not been released yet.

Jenstar will also resume collaboration with dance choreographer and filmmaker, Lawrence Fung to sound design and mix two of his upcoming dance films later this fall.

Not to mention Loving Anna the film written and directed by Travis Orozco, was screened this month in NYC at the New York Latino Film Festival, will screen online next month at the Seatlle Latino Film Festival (to get tickets for the October 11 screening go here), and waiting on a couple of more. While Jenstar did not make it down to LA for the August screening (hashtag not ready to take the risk yet), HSM is eager to experience a film screening sooooon!

The Cho Stories written and directed by Anna Sang-Park is also continuing its thrilling festival journey not only here in the US but last week premiered in the UK at the Exit 6 film festival, and lead actor Phil Nee was nominated for Best Performance Award AND Appa Appa Appa also won best short over 10 min at the Peekskill Film Festival. The screenings and the awards are ever growing and Jenstar continues to feel the deepest heart-warming gratitude to be part of these filmmaking teams, entrusted by these filmmakers to bring their films over the finish line and complete the journey of reaching an audience via the film experience.

Note: HSM found out today 9/30 that Appa Appa Appa will be having an IN PERSON screening at the 14th Annual Bushwick Film Festival in Brooklyn! Not only could you see it IRL on Saturday, October 23 but you can also RENT it for $5 starting October 19 HERE.

The work begets the work, and Jenstar is already buzzing with anticipation for the next projects coming her way in the next couple months in addition to getting to work on all of the above fall projects ahead.
